The Protective Role of Silymarin to Ameliorate the Adverse Effects of Ochratoxin-A in Laying Hens on Productive Performance, Blood Biochemistry, Hematological and Antioxidants Status

This study was planned to examine the effect of silymarin on diminishing adverse effects ochratoxin-A (OTA) in laying hens. A total number 300 Inshas, local layer hens 28 weeks age were randomly distributed into 4 groups with 5 replicates each (15 hens). The birds fed following treatments, (Control): a hen diet without any supplementation; (SL): control supplemented SL (1000 mg/kg feed); (OTA-diet): contaminated 1 ppm OTA/kg diet, and (OTA+SL): OTA-diet plus (1ppm OTA+1000 mg SL/kg feed). Results showed that feeding OTA at reduced productive performance compared those diet. In treated erythrocytes count, leukocytes PCV Hb decreased when groups. Albumin, globulin serum proteins significantly lower Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) alanine (ALT) increased comparison Creatinine uric acid but almost normal group. results had severe liver kidney, group kidneys showing its hepatoprotective effects.
